Capitol rally opposes bill to counter solar ballot initiative

Solar advocates turned out at the Arizona Capitol today to oppose a forthcoming bill that would hamper a solar ballot initiative.

The Arizona Solar Energy Freedom Act, fronted by former Arizona Corporation Commissioner Kris Mayes, would keep solar energy as is for the next six years and prevent utilities from changing net metering, adding demand charges or increasing solar fees.

Mayes called out Sen. Debbie Lesko, R-Peoria, for planning to run a referendum that would put a competing ballot initiative on the ballot. Lesko said last week she was working with utilities, including Arizona Public Service, to craft the referendum.
