Phoenix increases property tax on 5-4 vote

In an emotional 5-4 vote, a divided Phoenix City Council approved the city’s first property tax hike in 21 years.

So many people jammed into the city council chambers to hear the three-debate that the fire marshal wasn’t letting anyone else inside.

Phoenix City Manager Ed Zuercher said the tax hike would cost the average Phoenix homeowner about $51 a year or $4.25 a month.
