Tempe City Council plans to send Papago Park preserve plan to voters

Petition organizers hope to stave off future possible development of Tempe portion of Papago Park

The Tempe City Council is looking at putting a Papago Park preservation plan to voters.

If the plan is ratified, it would allow for designation of park preserves.

The council, which has looked at the issue in work-study sessions this month and in April, agreed that further action should be taken to protect park grounds. This decision was thanks in part to a petition with more than 1,100 signatures collected by Tempe residents Darlene Justus and Deb Gain-Braley.
