Jordan Rose, Grant Woods duel as Maricopa motorsports complex gets permit

Two high-profile attorneys butted heads over a proposed motor sports facility on Tuesday, eventually leading to a defiant Maricopa City Council unanimously approving a conditional-use permit for the project after being threatened with legal action.

Apex Motorsports is a proposed “golf club for motor enthusiasts” that would feature private race tracks and condos for storing cars along with areas for enthusiasts to socialize with each other. It would be located on the northwest corner of Ralston Road and State Route 238.

The council chambers were full of people Tuesday wanting to speak out on the project. Most voiced their support while wearing Apex stickers distributed prior to the meeting, saying it’s the kind of project the city needs to grow and diversify its economy. Others wanted to promote caution.
