Senate bill unhealthy for rural Pinal County

Many Pinal County residents, especially those served by rural clinics, could lose coverage if the Senate health care bill passes in its current form, providers say.

In Pinal County, 75,662 residents are enrolled in the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, including the Medicaid expansion rolled out following the passage of the Affordable Care Act.

Senators in Washington are scheduled to vote on the Better Care Reconciliation Act by Friday, ahead of their Fourth of July recess.

Rural clinics that serve many of the vulnerable populations covered under AHCCCS would be disproportionately affected, as they more often serve those covered by Medicaid.
