UPDATE: Payson flash flood survivor connects with man who saved his life

A boy who survived the deadly Payson flash flood that killed 9 of his family members is looking for the Good Samaritan who he said saved his life.

Acis Raiden Garcia, 8, is still comprehending what happened when he and his family were swept away on Ellison Creek on Saturday. A “wave of black” tore through where they all were splashing around on a hot day to celebrate his aunt’s birthday.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office said the boy, who goes by “Raiden,” and his father, 29-year-old Julio Garcia, his wife, 28-year-old Esthela Atondo, and their 1-year-old daughter, Marina Garcia, were the only ones to survive. His uncle, Hector Miguel Garnica, 27, remains missing.
