Despite ballots being counted throughout Wednesday, it is not yet clear what the fate of a half-cent sales tax that would fund transportation projects around Pinal County is. But it is definitely trending a certain way.

With only 2,600 ballots left to be counted, Proposition 417 continues to receive a majority of the support from voters, but only with just over 50 percent. The “Yes” votes hold a margin of 705 over the “No” choice.

The proposition’s fortunes would have to change drastically for 2,600 ballots to make a difference, though it is still possible, especially considering the precincts that still have votes outstanding. However, Wednesday’s updates were not kind to those hoping it would fail. The “Yes” vote’s lead grew from less than half a percentage point Tuesday night to 1.62 percent on Wednesday night.

Disclosure: Rose Law Group represents a coalition of property and business owners throughout Pinal County working to bring new transportation infrastructure to the county.
