In trade off to protect ‘dreamers’, Flake says he will vote for tax bill

Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake said Friday he supports the Republican tax-cut bill after he struck a deal he said provides assurances of permanent protections for children of immigrants known as “dreamers.”

Even without Flake’s backing, Republican leaders in the Senate predicted earlier in the day they had the votes needed to pass a measure that will lock in permanent breaks for corporations and the wealthy and offer a mixed bag of temporary cuts to others while adding at least $1 trillion to the national debt.

Passage of the sweeping plan would give Republicans their first significant legislative victory of the Trump era.
