Deadline set for unspent highway funding; Official says states must use leftover federal cash

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood told states they have until October to find a use for unspent highway money.

Around $473 million in projects that were paid for by earmarks in previous federal-transportation spending laws have languished, LaHood said.

He added that some projects have languished for as long as 10 years.
