Three candidates are vying to represent Legislative District 8 in the Arizona Senate in the Nov. 6 general election.

Barbara McGuire, a Democrat from Kearny and a former state legislator for District 23, faces Republican Joe Ortiz of Casa Grande, a current school board member, and Libertarian Dean Dill, a Casa Grande resident in his first run for political office.

In their August unopposed primaries McGuire received 8,646 votes, Ortiz 8,265 and Dill 33 as a write-in candidate.

The district takes in most of Casa Grande, the part east of Jimmie Kerr Boulevard, Thornton Road and Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway that is south of Cottonwood Lane, east of Pinal Avenue south of McCartney Road and east of Interstate 10 north of McCartney, as well as much of Eloy plus Coolidge, Florence, San Tan Valley and eastern Pinal.
