SIERRA VISTA – Public safety officials from across Arizona are expected to attend a memorial service for Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever on Wednesday.
Dever died last week in a single-vehicle crash south of Williams in northern Arizona. Authorities say the 60-year-old lost control of his truck on the way to join one of his sons on a hunting trip.
The service is set for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Buena High School in Sierra Vista, according to details released by the Sheriff’s Office.
Known for his cowboy hat and his tough stance on illegal immigration, Dever, a Republican, served four terms as sheriff and was running for his fifth unopposed.
Dever and his wife, who met at Brigham Young University, raised six sons, three of whom are police officers. Dever often went on hunting and fishing trips with his sons, a family spokesman said.
