Battle lines were drawn Monday during a televised debate between candidates for Scottsdale City Council.
In the hour-long forum, Guy Phillips, Joanne Phillips and Chris Schaffner shared similar views on development, fearing “growth for the sake of growth” and rampant approval of apartments and projects that conflict with Scottsdale residents’ values.
Suzanne Klapp and Virginia Korte and Eric Luoma streesed greater collaboration with businesses and a greater focus on economic development.
The forum, a joint event of the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce and city of Scottsdale held at City Hall, featured all six candidates who are seeking three seats on the council in the Nov. 6 election.
Klapp, the sole incumbent, said the race “gives voters a pretty clear sense of division.”
