Liquor license loophole – Camp Verde approves entertainment district

By a unanimous vote, the Camp Verde Town Council approved the designation of an entertainment district throughout most of the downtown business area.

As approved, the district includes many of the commercial buildings felt to be the best candidates for wine-tasting rooms or microbreweries, the specific businesses the Town hopes to attract.

Describing the district as a “low-cost marketing tool,” Economic Development Director Mel Preston told the council that the designation would also be a key component to help bring visitors to the downtown.

The significance of the designation is that it sets aside a state liquor law restriction that forbids alcohol sales within 300 feet of a church or school unless the alcohol is sold through a hotel, motel or restaurant.
