Political Roundup: Arizona Democrats lay out a transparency plan for Legislature

Democrats in the state House of Representatives, as well as those hoping to win a seat there, released a plan Monday that they say would pull back the curtain on some of the state’s secretive practices.

The plan includes a ban on gifts to elected officials, clearer rules on how financial disclosures should be made and a return to state practices that would require a comparison of the cost of running a private prison in contrast to a publicly controlled one.

Rep. Chad Campbell, minority leader in the state House, said the platform is a way to signal to voters that Democrats are intent on reversing some of the policies recently put into effect.
