Standing Room Only at Gammage….By Myra Richman ASU Gammage launched the countdown to its 2014 50th anniversary on Saturday, October 13, 2012, dramatically, with a Gala — the first of three major social events leading up to its golden anniversary. ASU Gammage, the elegant Frank Lloyd Wright designed performing arts center at ASU in Tempe, has become the top touring venue for Broadway and is nationally known for its first-rate productions and performances, as well as its mission of Connecting Communities. Taking place onstage, the event began  at 6pm with cocktails and conversation, followed by dinner and Broadway entertainment – also on stage.  Edible dessert centerpieces were designed by the culinary department of the Art Institute of Phoenix. The event was chaired by Scottsdale resident Leslie Rich. “My husband Jeff and I have supported the arts in every city we have lived in and since we have lived in the Valley, we have fallen in love with ASU Gammage. Now is the time for the community to come together and support this iconic venue and let it have another amazing 50 years,”says Leslie Rich. The Golden Gammage Gala was the perfect opportunity for ASU Gammage supporters –old and new – to come together for a grand celebration. Performers included the remarkable young musician/composer and first-ever Gammage Residency artist Daniel Bernard Roumain and critically-acclaimed Broadway star David Burnham. While guests enjoyed a fabulous evening, ASU Gammage’s profound cultural impact took the stage to celebrate CONNECTING COMMUNITIES., and looking toward a star-studded future. There’s no need to fly to New York.  New York is coming here, and Broadway lovers won’t want to miss a few of the following upcoming events:  ANYTHING GOES (November 13-18), DONNY & MARIE-CHRISTMAS IN ARIZONA (November 27-December 2), THE ADDAMS FAMILY (December 11-16), CATHY RIGBY IS PETER PAN (January 8-13, 2013), WAR HORSE (February 5-10, 2013), CITY COUNCIL MEETING (February 16, 2013), EMILY JOHNSON/CATALYST (March 2, 2013), MEMPHIS (March 5-10, 2013), DISNEY’S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (April 9-14, 2013).
