Arizona officials whittle down uncounted ballots

Arizona election officials are whittling away at the tens of thousands of ballots that still need to be counted.

Secretary of State Ken Bennett says that as of Wednesday afternoon, there are an estimated 192,337 early and provisional ballots statewide that still need to be processed and counted.

That number stood at more than 324,000 on Tuesday. Election officials say they’re making progress.

The state canvass to certify the election results is scheduled for Dec. 3.

In Maricopa County, election officials say about 27,000 early ballots still remain to be processed for tabulation and about 114,000 provisional ballots need to be processed then tabulated.

County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox said during a meeting Wednesday that voters must be assured that their votes count and will be counted “no matter how long it takes.”
