Deal to sell Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house falls through

An anonymous buyer who stepped forward to purchase a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house in east Phoenix to save it from demolition has backed out of the deal, the current owners have confirmed.

The prospective buyer of the David and Gladys Wright House reversed course just days before an inspection period was set to expire on Wednesday, which also was the deadline for the buyer to drop out of the deal.

In a statement sent Sunday to Robert Joffe, the realtor for current owner 8081 Meridian, representatives of the potential buyer, real estate agent Johnathon Randolph De Young and attorney Grady Gammage, Jr., stated:

“While the prospective buyer strongly supports efforts to preserve the David and Gladys Wright house, he has concluded that for personal and business reasons, this is not an opportunity he will pursue at this time. He has every confidence that a preservation-minded buyer will be found, and that the house will be preserved.”

No further details were offered on the buyer’s motives for dropping out of the sale or the buyer’s identity, which has remained undisclosed since a potential deal was announced two weeks ago.
