The Apache Junction city clerk is accepting arguments supporting or opposing Proposition 100, known as home rule — the continued extension of the local alternative expenditure limitation.
The issue is scheduled for the March 12 city primary election.
Independent Newsmedia http://arizona.newszap.com/home/117984-130/city-seeks-opinions-on-home-rule says submissions are limited to 200 words, and each submission must be accompanied by a filing fee of $60.
The city’s Web site says home rule, which Home rule permits the city council members to make annual budget decisions for their city “at home” rather than by using the state statute, would mean a reduction of approximately one-third of the general fund.
Home rule has been in effect in Apache Junction since 1985; it must be resubmitted to voters every four years.
