Maricopa council addresses customer rights law

Senate Bill 1598 was supposed to help Arizona cities and counties with a customer Bill of Rights, but Maricopa development services director Brent Billingsley doesn’t think it’s serving its intended purpose.

At Tuesday night’s city council work session, Billingsley said homeowners associations, in particular, are not pleased with the legislation.

“They want to change this law because it doesn’t, in fact, make our process (with inspections and permits) faster; it makes our process more cumbersome because it requires an additional review that we don’t currently have to do.”
