At the regularly scheduled Oct. 17, 2012 Queen Creek Town Council meeting the council voted unanimously to exchange 127 acres of land for a 127-acre parcel owned by the Barney family. Mayor Gail Barney recused himself from the vote.

The land in question includes a mostly square parcel near Queen Creek Rd. and Merrill Rd. that the Town will receive in exchange for a long thin parcelstretching from Queen Creek Rd. to nearly Germann Rd. Prior to the vote, Planning Administrator Wayne Balmer elaborated on just what the land swap entailed.

“In order to do this exchange we actually did a preliminary design on the new property to make sure all of the facilities that were proposed in the original QC sports complex could be built at the new location,” Balmer said. “We didn’t want to have a property that wouldn’t allow us to have the recreational facilities that we talked about earlier in a five-part master plan.”
