Scottsdale council winners talk initial focus for terms

Non-canvassed election results show incumbent Suzanne Klapp and Virginia Korte and Guy Phillips were elected to serve four-year terms on the Scottsdale City Council.

The trio discussed with Independent Newsmedia

Klapp, who will be entering into her second consecutive term, says she will continue

dedication to economic development.

A major concern Klapp says is to how the city can better handle the needs of a growing population.

According to the 2010 Census, the city of Scottsdale had grown by 7.2 percent between the years of 2000 and 2010 showing a total population number of 217,385.

Korte says she aims to make good on campaign commitments.

“One of those is McDowell Road and our southern gateway,” she said of the once burgeoning commerce hub. “I am going to try and make some positive things happen.”

Phillips says hiring a long-term city manager and the formation of a new General Plan update are his initial priorities.
