Democrat Kyrsten Sinema arrived in Washington today for freshman orientation at the U.S. House of Representatives after The Associated Press today declared her the winner of the Valley’s newest seat in Congress, and bher Republican opponent Vernon Parker conceded.
Sinema took a 5,789-vote lead at midday, with about 209,000 votes counted, The Arizona Republic reported.
“I want to thank the voters and the people of Arizona,” Parker said in a written statement sent to news organizations. “While I had wished for a different outcome, I will continue my public service so that everybody can follow the American dream just like I did.”
