Casa Grande water recharge plan gets go-ahead

Approval was given Monday night to change land use on 60 acres adjacent to Dave White Regional Park to allow Casa Grande to build a wastewater recharge facility and riparian area.

As a companion measure, the City Council gave initial approval to changing the zoning there to Urban Ranch, which is basically open space.

“That would match the land use category for the adjacent Dave White Golf Course and actually expand that open space and make a large public open space area,” Planning and Development Director Paul Tice told the council.

The city’s plan for the land north and northeast of the sewage treatment plant is to build a series of recharge basins that will allow treated water to trickle into under- ground storage, recharging up to 2,100 acre-feet per year.

A park-like setting around the series of recharge ponds would be integrated into the Dave White Park and trails system master plan.
