As the nation continues its steady climb out of the economic slump, construction in Green Valley and Sahuarita are a bright spot pointing to better days.
Several construction projects, commercial and housing, are under way in the communities. Here is a sampling of what’s going up.
RANCHO SAHUARITA
Long one of the nation’s strongest housing development, Rancho Sahuarita continues to move forward. Home sales have been brisk at about seven a month in D.R. Horton’s Estancia del Corazon development, which features 78-foot wide lots and a prime location near Anza Trail School and Rancho Sahuarita Marketplace. The 86-lot development has seen 68 building permits pulled and 32 closings through November.
Elsewhere in Rancho Sahuarita, Maracay Homes is selling about three homes a month in the Enclave at Entrada Bonita, also near Anza Trail School, and Richmond American Homes is selling about four a month in Presidio del Coronado and another two to three a month in Presidio San Xavier.
MATTRESS FIRM
Construction began in late October with completion expected in February, said Leigh-Anne Farringer of Chasse Building Team, general contractor, based in Mesa.
PARK PROFESSIONAL CENTRE
The 12,560-square-foot building is framed out, progress is on track and plans are to open by April, said Mike Bartoletti, who with his optometrist wife, Chris, is developing the site as the anchor tenant.
UNITED COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER
Construction has been going strong since March and when finished will consolidate some operations at other locations around town and allow for additional services, said project liaison Dick Roberts.
Completion of the 16,000-square-foot addition is expected in early January with a Feb. 1 opening planned.
ACE HARDWARE
Workers are transforming the facade of the old grocery store, where Ace Hardware will have 10,903 square feet on the eastern end of the space.
AUTOZONE
AutoZone in September entered into a purchase agreement for a 30,056-square foot undeveloped parcel and has submitted to the town plans for a 6,815 square foot. The store could open by July if plans are approved and construction starts in April.
