A property owner seeking to have nine vacant acres annexed into the city of Mesa, rezoned and modified to accommodate more homes, is meeting with concerned neighbors and a regional Desert Uplands Area homeowners group to discuss the plans.
Three agenda items for the 2000 block of North Sossaman Road (east side) and the 7600 block of East McKellips Road (north side) were discussed Nov. 27-28 by the Mesa Planning and Zoning Board. The developer, Foresight Group LLC, represented by Joe Goforth, is seeking a change from one to two dwelling units per acre to two to four dwelling units per acre. The single-residence housing subdivision would have one- and two-story homes. Adjacent homes are in unincorporated Maricopa County and have one home per acre or one per 1.25 acres.
Mr. Goforth said letters were sent to surrounding residences and that a meeting was held to explain the project to neighbors. At a study session Nov. 27 he said he had heard no opposition to the project by neighbors. But at the Nov. 28 meeting he said neighbors were attending who preferred to have one-acre lots.
