The Arizona Republic
Marie Lopez Rogers and her inspirational story now have a national stage. This is good for all of Arizona.
Rogers, mayor of Avondale, just began serving a one-year term as president of the National League of Cities. That’s one more accomplishment for a woman who grew up picking cotton with her parents and grandparents, immigrants from Mexico.
From those beginnings, she attended community college, went into social work and transitioned into politics. Her activities with the league have given her a national profile that will only be enhanced with her new leadership position.
