Blue Oak Energy this week announced it has installed Arizona’s largest rooftop solar system.
A 4.1-megawatt solar rooftop system has been installed at First Solar Inc.’s product testing and research plant in Mesa and is expected to begin operation by the end of the year.
The system, installed by Davis, Calif.-based Blue Oak Energy, is said to be the largest rooftop system in Arizona.
“This system is world-class because of the high-quality installation, multidisciplinary teamwork and aligned interests to complete the project,” Tobin Booth, CEO of Blue Oak Energy, said in a news release. “It’s a testament to First Solar’s commitment to operating world-class facilities that minimize their corporate carbon footprint.”
Blue Oak Energy is a photovoltaic system engineering and design-build firm. Photovoltaic module manufacturer First Solar is based in Tempe.
Terms of Blue Oak energy’s contract with First Solar were not disclosed.
The 4.1-megawatt rooftop system covers about 900,000 square feet and uses nearly 55,000 advanced thin-film photovoltaic solar modules manufactured by First Solar. The system is secured with a proprietary ballasted mounting system, resulting in no penetration of the existing roof surface.
The system will annually displace about 4,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide, the primary greenhouse gas emitted through human activities that would be emitted by conventional electricity generation.
