Mayor Tibshraeny discusses high-tech boom in Chandler

With Intel’s Chandler operations (pictured) employing almost 10,000 workers, the city is nicknamed “The Oasis of the Silicon Desert.”

What are your first memories of Chandler — before all the growth? What kind of town was it?

I have fond memories of Chandler as a small and suburban agricultural town. We practically grew up overnight — in a good way — and we’re now the fourth-largest city in the state. What I have worked to accomplish as mayor is to maintain the family-friendly community atmosphere we have always enjoyed.

How did Chandler turn so quickly into a high-tech hub?
