SRP to buy power from Sempra-owned gas plant

Salt River Project is prepping for future growth with a $371 million purchase of a natural gas generating unit from a Sempra Energy subsidiary.

SRP will buy one of the two 625-megawatt generating units at the Mesquite Generating Station in Arlington, about 40 miles west of Phoenix. San Diego-based Sempra U.S. Gas & Power owns the plant, and under the agreement SRP will operate it. Sempra will own the second unit.
