State dismisses Casa Grande complaint against election debate at school

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office has dismissed Stephen Kohut’s complaint against the Casa Grande Elementary School District over use of school facilities for an election forum.

Kohut, then chair of the Pinal County Republican Party, wrote a letter to the Casa Grande Dispatch editor Oct. 9, saying he had filed the complaint because use of the district meeting room for a candidates forum was “illegal, improper and a clear example of what is wrong with the incestuous relationship between the teachers’ union, school superintendent and union-backed board members.”

Republican precinct committeeman Harold Vangilder apologized to the CGESD board Tuesday for what he called Kohut’s “unfortunate comments” and said Pinal County Republicans, as a group, are not interested in conflict and verbal attacks.
