Bob Stump is the new chairman of the Arizona Corporation Commission, taking over the lead of the body that sets utility rates and governs corporate filings within the state.
The five-member commission selected Stump for the two-year term on Monday. He succeeds Commissioner Gary Pierce, who was the chairman for the previous two-year term.
“Bob is well prepared to lead the commission and I welcome Bob Burns and Susan Bitter Smith to the commission,” Pierce said. “I look forward to having their experience and dedication to public service utilized on behalf of the citizens of Arizona.”
Stump won re-election in November, which also saw Burns and Bitter Smith elected to their seats. The commission now is completely made up of Republicans.
Stump is a former legislator, and one of four ACC members who previously served at the Legislature. Bitter Smith is the only member now without legislative experience, but she served on the Central Arizona Water Conservation District board as well as on the Scottsdale City Council.
Stump is entering his second term on the commission. He also serves on the board of the National Association of Regulatory Commissioners.
Pierce and Commissioner Brenda Burns are in the middle of their four-year terms.
