As 2012 recedes into the history books and 2013 appears around the corner, some highly anticipated projects and new happenings are on the way in the new year.
In Pinal County, expectations are high for the Phoenix Mart project in Casa Grande, a massive international wholesale marketplace.
Unfortunately, a scheduled Dec. groundbreaking has been postponed, and County economic development director Tim Kanavel says a slowing global market means the timetable will get pushed back.
“Their project is very dependent on foreign investment, from China specifically,” Kanavel said, “and things aren’t so rosy out there.”
Phoenix Mart will have its day in the sun, he argued, but only once things get recovered globally.
“Believe it or not, those things affect what happens in the county and the state,” Kanavel said.
In Queen Creek, plans are being set for a new “Rediscover Your Community” local tourism campaign and a new community website. Most prominently, however, is the opening of the new Banner Medical Center.
