NHL faceoff with players is over

Phoenix Coyotes Captain Shane Doan, a visible and vocal participant during the entire labor battle, alerted his teammates with a group text message that it was time to reassemble: The deal was done.

For as stagnant as the National Hockey League lockout has been at times since it started nearly four months ago, there’s been nothing but action since its demise was ordered early Sunday morning once the league and Players’ Association reached a tentative collective bargaining agreement.

As soon as the longest and final negotiation session — a 16-hour odyssey in New York — ended at approximately 3 a.m. local time, the news appeared on phones on the bedside tables of Coyotes players.
