On the road back with Queen Creek

queen creekQueen Creek was recently named “one of America’s friendliest towns” by Forbes magazine,” and Mayor Gail Barney describes the community as one with “growth and excitement for the future.”

Barney said the community started 2012 still in a “challenging economic climate,” but experienced “a bit of a turnaround with regard to growth.”

Based on a calculation of existing, or “shovel ready,” home lots and the number of lots in the planning pipeline for subdivisions in Queen Creek, the town forecasts a potential growth in population to 41,970 by 2020. The town’s population according to the 2010 U.S. census was 26,490.

The mayor said the town’s budget for the fiscal year “marks the first budget in five years that did not include any reductions in service or staff.”

He said one of the highlights of the town’s tourism marketing is Horseshoe Park & Equestrian Centre, which held events on 178 days of 2012 and brought tens of thousands of visitors to the area.

Turning to 2013, the mayor said: “I’m excited about all of the things I see on the horizon for 2013. Economic development, maintaining sustainable revenue streams and continuing with services that our residents expect will be our priorities as we start a new calendar year.”
