Metro Phoenix’s construction industry added 5,400 new construction jobs year-over-year in November, tallying a total workforce of 88,800 for the month, according to the Associated General Contractors of America. That was the fifth-highest number of jobs in the nation in November, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
That’s a 6 percent year-over-year gain and the fifth-biggest jump in the nation in terms of raw figures.
Two metro areas in Texas took the top two spots for largest construction employment gains, with the Houston area’s spike of 15,300 new jobs at No. 1 and the Dallas area’s 6,900 new jobs at No. 2. The Boston area came in closely behind in third place with it’s addition of 6,800 construction jobs, followed by Seattle’s 6,300.
Phoenix and the aforementioned cities, however, are among the minority, the report said.
