By a 4-3 vote, the Town Council chose a simpler monument sign — with no multicolor electronic bulletin board — to appear in conjunction with the new bank building at Main Street and Butte Avenue.

This sign, less expensive than the sign previously approved, will be included in National Bank of Arizona’s improvements at no additional cost to the town. The town was to share in the cost of the first sign by perhaps $15,000.

Previously on Dec. 3, the council approved a 6 1/2-foot-tall monument sign with a multicolor electronic message area to promote town events. Town staff recommended this sign, known as “Option F,” from among other options that included larger and smaller electronic message areas or reader boards.

The vote for this sign was 5-2, amid concerns that a digital sign wasn’t in keeping with historic district guidelines and the traffic light pole will block the sign.

Then on Jan. 7, the council voted to rescind its earlier action. On Jan. 22 the council took up the issue again.
