Yavapai Board of Supervisors heads into the future with five members

PRESCOTT – For the first time in Yavapai County history, a five-member Board of Supervisors convened a meeting on Monday morning.

The board, which now consists of two experienced Supervisors, Tom Thurman and Chip Davis, and three newcomers to county government, Craig Brown, Rowle P. Simmons, and Jack Smith, posed for official photographs before getting down to work.

Early in the meeting, Brown, who has attended many board meetings as a spectator, made his stand known on a building project.

The board was asked to approve a $274,000 HVAC-system refit for the Camp Verde County Courthouse, along with a $90,000 control upgrade.

Ken Van Keuren, director of the County Facilities Department, said the problem was that the contractor had gone out of business and there was “no one to go after” to remedy the problems that had cropped up.
