Bullhead City Mayor Jack Hakim, City Manager Toby Cotter, and Public Works Director Pawan Agrawal were greeted by a full house when they recently spoke before the Mohave Valley Contractors Association at their monthly dinner meeting regarding the sales tax initiative.
Residents will decide when they vote in the March 27 primary whether to approve the initiative to increase the city sales tax from 2 to 3 percent for a period of three years. The increase is expected to raise $15 million, which would be used for nine infrastructure projects, which you will find on the city’s website, www.bullheadcity.com.
The trio was asked why $1.75 million in improvements to the animal control shelter is first on the list, when many people are concerned with public safety issues — mainly making sure the city’s streets are in good condition. The city council ranked the projects “after hearing from staff,” based on need, and based on traffic counts, Cotter replied. He reviewed the deteriorating conditions of the shelter, which he said needs to be expanded beyond its original size, when it was built to serve a city of less than half the size Bullhead is today.
