The Arizona Department of Public Safety has closed its criminal investigation related to a female Phoenix firefighter’s claim that she endured sexual harassment and discrimination from her colleagues.
A recent memo from the Phoenix Police Department states that the DPS closed the investigation because the woman, firefighter Julie Simpson, said she did not want prosecution to be pursued and would not assist detectives. The DPS’ inquiry specifically looked at an accusation that a male firefighter had stolen her cellphone.
DPS investigators were looking into an allegation that a co-worker broke into her room at the fire station through the attic and took her cellphone to view its contents in February 2011, according to a memo.
City Council members wanted the DPS to determine whether the actions were criminal.
