First Solar Acquires New Mexico’s Largest Solar Project

first-solarFirst Solar Inc. has acquired the 50 MW Macho Springs Solar project from Element Power Solar.

The PV project will be located in Luna County, N.M., on land leased from the New Mexico State Land Office. First Solar will construct the facility using its thin-film PV modules. When complete, the project will be the state’s largest solar energy facility.

Electricity from the project will be purchased by El Paso Electric under a long-term power purchase agreement, which is subject to regulatory approvals. The project is expected to be complete in 2014.
