Queen Creek Town Council announces election for potential purchase of utility company

waterAt its Feb. 6 meeting, the Queen Creek Town Council called for an election on May 21, 2013 to ask voters to give the Town of Queen Creek the authority to purchase the H2O, Inc. Water Utility. This will be an all mail special election, with the official ballot and election materials mailed to all qualified electors beginning April 25, 2013. H2O is a family owned business that has served the Pinal County/Maricopa County area for more than 40 years.

Several months ago, the Town initiated discussions with the H2O, Inc. Water Company to review options for acquiring the right to serve residents living in the 3.5 square mile portion of the community still served by H2O. This is the only portion of the Town not served by the Town-owned water service, and once the Church Farms subdivision is built out, it will be home to approximately 20 percent of all Town residents. While these residents receive fire, sewer, and trash collection services from the Town, they receive their water from the H2O, Inc Water Utility. Although H2O was not interested in selling a portion of the company, the Board of Directors was willing to discuss an acquisition of the entire company.
