Florence’s metropolitan planning organization reversal leaves questions; now includes Casa Grande, Coolidge, Eloy

The future of the new Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) metropolitan planning organization (MPO) that will center around Casa Grande is a little more uncertain after a late reversal from the town of Florence with regard to their inclusion.

On Jan. 22, Florence’s town council agreed to join the MPO, officially called the Sun Corridor MPO, along with Casa Grande, Coolidge and Eloy. However, they added a stipulation that they will join as long as San Tan Valley and Superstition Vistas were included as well.

Since that ordinance was passed, the town council learned that San Tan Valley was already a part of the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) MPO, despite being in Pinal County. Once Florence learned about this, they unanimously passed an ordinance committing themselves to MAG in accordance to the previous stipulation.
