The Glendale city council named Glendale Chief Deputy City Attorney Nicholas C. DiPiazza to the position of acting city attorney effective immediately. Former Scottsdale City Manager Dick Bowers was appointed as the next interim city manager, also effective immediately.
A red flag was first spotted following council’s last workshop session March 19, when an item on the agenda for executive session eluded to a review of the acting city manager’s performance and a possible termination of the position.
A few weeks before, Feb. 26, former City Attorney Craig Tindall was asked to step down from his position in almost the same manner following an executive session agenda item.
Both Skeete and Tindall have reportedly been negotiating the terms of their contracts before leaving, to the point of hiring lawyers and negotiating payments for a severance package. The two have been placed on paid leave.
While councilmembers and city staff stayed mum as to who was selected after last week’s executive session, it was clear there would soon be some new faces on city staff.
Mayor Jerry Weiers has previously expressed his desire to start with a fresh slate at City Hall and “clean house,” so to speak.
