Santos Chavez running for Phoenix council after 40-year break from politics

A former politician hopes to return to city council now that Tom Simplot isn’t running.

Santos Chavez, 62, wants to represent District 4 on the Phoenix City Council. The race for the central Phoenix seat is proving to be one of the city’s most contentious.

Others looking to replace Simplot are former Phoenix City Council candidate Laura Pastor, former state Sen. David Lujan; DJ and activist Austin Head; Encanto Village Planning Committee vice chairman Dan Carroll; and Planning Commission member Justin Johnson.
