Red-faced Mohave County officials say an oversight had 15 county employees pay for life insurance without actually being enrolled for the voluntary benefit.
The Kingman Daily Miner reports officials disclosed the oversight to the county board of supervisors last week.
Human Resources Director Ray Osuna said 15 employees signed up for the benefits and had money withdrawn from their paychecks for up to 10 years. He said it appears the county never submitted the enrollment paperwork to the insurance company.
Finance Director John Timko said the error could have been caught by checking the insurers’ invoices, but wasn’t.
Timko said the county either can put the policies in place back to the workers’ signup dates or return the $27,000 of premiums paid by the workers.
