Bullhead City officials faced an animated group armed with lots of probing questions during the final public information session on temporarily increasing the city sales tax, held Friday morning at Desert Shores Community Baptist Church. The initiative appears on Tuesday’s primary ballot. If passed, it would allow the city to raise its sales tax from 2 to 3 percent for three years, garnering $5 million annually for infrastructure improvements, including the animal control shelter and the Bullhead Parkway.
City Manager Toby Cotter handled the majority of the meeting, with assistance from Mayor Jack Hakim, Public Works Director Pawan Agrawal, Council Member Kathy Bruck and Administrative Analyst Janice Paul. There were as many audience members as city officials in attendance, but one of them was the church’s caretaker, who was there to open and close the doors.
They’ve been speaking at public information sessions, as well as before service clubs, with anywhere from one to 65 people in attendance, Cotter noted, although no one showed for a session at the Bullhead Area Chamber of Commerce March 4, he said.
