Apache Junction medical marijuana dispensary in limbo

By Wendy Miller | Independent Newsmedia Inc.

Because of concerns about parking and proximity to a daycare, discussion about a proposed medical marijuana dispensary has been continued to the Apache Junction Planning and Zoning Commission’s next meeting.

The commission voted unanimously to continue the discussion, which will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, in the city council chambers in the Apache Junction municipal complex, 300 E. Superstition Blvd.

MMJAt that time, commissioners should find out whether a small daycare that was previously unknown to the city staff could jeopardize a conditional special use permit for the dispensary due to its close proximity to the dispensary’s proposed site.

Commissioners began examining the request for a conditional use permit request to operate a nonprofit medical marijuana dispensary in Apache Junction at its April 9 work session. The request was made by Ironwood Center LLC and Nature’s Wonder Inc. for an 837-square-foot site at 68 S. Ironwood Drive, on the southwest corner Ironwood and Apache Trail.
