With efforts under way to repeal the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act, supporters commissioned an economic analysis that found the budding industry could employ more than 1,500 Arizona workers and provide $74 million in income to those households.
To conduct the study, the Regulated Dispensaries of Arizona Association turned to Timothy Hogan, professor emeritus at Arizona State University’s L. William Seidman Research Institute.
The Arizona Department of Health Services is charged with licensing medical marijuana dispensaries where the 37,614 approved cardholders can buy their pot. The state will allow 126 dispensaries to open in Arizona, based on a percentage of the number of pharmacies in the state.
William Myer, co-owner of the Arizona Organix Dispensary in Glendale and co-founder of the association, said he has been paying taxes regularly since opening last year.
