The number of building permits issued in the first quarter of 2013 in Casa Grande is significantly higher than a year ago.
In the first three months of 2013, the city issued 45 permits for new single-family houses. That’s a 221 percent jump from the first quarter of 2012. In the first three months of last year, 14 permits were issued for new single-family houses, according to city of Casa Grande records.
If the current rate holds for the entire year, the city could issue between 150 and 200 single-family construction permits this year, said Planning and Development Director Paul Tice.
For the last several years, the number of building permits issued in the city has dwindled. In 2010, a total of 137 single-family building permits were issued; 68 were issued in 2011 and 59 in 2012.
In 2006, at the height of the building boom, the city issued about 2,000 permits.
“We are on the uptick,” Tice said.
