The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has dismissed claims alleging age discrimination filed by three former Page officials in the wake of their Reduction-in-Force notices of nearly a year ago.
Page City Attorney Robert Wingo said Monday the EEOC notified him that it was closing its file on a charge of discrimination filed by Larry Clark, the former fire chief and a current candidate for Page City Council.
Clark, former fire marshal Howard Rosenberg and former community development director Ernest Rubi had filed claims last year. All allege discrimination based on age. The three were laid off in mid-April 2012 as part of a sweeping series of budget cuts. Eight employees, most of them department heads, were laid off. Claims by Rosenberg and Rubi were dismissed earlier.
Wingo said the EEOC issued the following determination on Clark’s case: “Based upon its investigation, the EEOC is unable to conclude that the information obtained establishes violations of the statutes.”
Clark and five other candidates are seeking three city council seats in the city’s May 21 general election. The field of 10 council hopefuls was trimmed by the March 12 primary.
